Our Community Involvement:

Giving back to those that make our business successful is something that we take seriously. We are proud to be a part of this community and are pleased to be able to support a variety of local causes and activities. Over the last few months, DiSabatino has donated to following organizations:

B+

The Andrew McDonough B+ Foundation honors the memory of Andrew McDonough, a 14-year-old athlete and 'A' student at Salesianum HS from Wilmington, Delaware. Andrew went from playing four soccer games on January 27, 2007 to a diagnosis of leukemia and sepsis just 48 hours later. Andrew's blood type and the family’s motto are to "Be Positive." Local and national media chronicled Andrew’s valiant journey and his website received over 1,000,000 hits in the first six months.

Brandywine High School’s Lacrosse Team

DiSabatino donated funds to help support the Brandywine High School Boys Lacrosse Boosters. The Lacrosse Boosters are a group of parent volunteers whose only mission is to support the Brandywine Boys Lacrosse Team. They receive no funding from the school or school district and rely on their own fundraising efforts to keep their program a success. The funds went towards the purchase of equipment, uniforms, tournament fees and programs that are needed each year for the Varsity, Junior Varsity and Freshman teams.

Bayard House for Women

The Bayard House helps vulnerable women to become nurturing parents and independent, contributing members of society. They provide a safe and stable environment at a very precarious time in the lives of their clients. Not only do they strive to help their clients become self-sufficient, effective parents, but they also work to achieve their long-term goals of lessening the rates of infant mortality and low birth weight in Delaware, reducing teen pregnancy rates, and building healthy families with healthy children. DiSabatino made a donation to help Catholic Charities and the Bayard House celebrate Mother’s Day.

Naaman's Little League

Naamans Little League is part of Delaware District 2 and is located in northern New Castle County. NLL will be starting its 55th season in 2011, consisting of 41 teams in 8 divisions with approximately 500 players ages 5-18. Its five field complex is located on Route 202/Concord Pike and Mt. Lebanon Road behind the Concord Gallery Shopping Center. DiSabatino made a donation to the league to help defray the increasing costs of providing Little League Baseball to the youth in our community.

Chasin' for Chalfin

Chasin’ for Chalfin was established to help a fellow animal lover and equestrian Jake Chalfin, who was paralyzed from the chest down when he fell while competing in the Blue Ridge Fall Races in Berryville, Virginia, on September 18, 2010. The Chasin’ for Chalfin organization's goal was to raise $1 million before the end of the year to help equestrians such as Jake tackle their extraordinary expenses and specific needs associated with such an injury. DiSabatino made a donation to help this organization.

Town of Elsmere Cleanup

In April, team members partnered up with Police & Fire Officials, along with other local business owners and homeowners in Elsmere to help clean up the Town. Vehicles drove up and down every street in all six districts collecting trash and old appliances for residents. The project was coordinated by the Town Manager.

Oxford Arts Alliance

Anyone who travels along Route 1 in the vicinity of Chadds Ford has surely seen it – the stately mansion that sits on Webb Road, just above the major roadway. The sight of this home sparks one’s imagination and evokes many questions – Who lives there? – What are the grounds like? – How about the inside?

In May, all those questions and more were answered as the house, known as Stonebridge Mansion, was open to the public as a decorator showhouse. Through the efforts of more than 20 of the area’s best interior design and landscape professionals, the house, which has sat empty for a number of years, was restored to its former glory. DiSabatino installed a garden designed by David Mull, our landscape designer who was on site while the showhouse was open.

St. Anthony’s Festival Garden

DiSabatino Landscaping was excited to partner with The Italian Festival to design and install an authentic Italian Renaissance Garden at the heart of the Festival. The DiSabatino team has studied classic “old world” designs and created a magical experience for all to enjoy, including decorative topiary's, an outdoor fountain, and an overall scene of unparalleled beauty. Bellissimo!!

Fleece for keeps

Fleece for Keeps seek to provide a sense of warmth and stability to children in the foster care system in Delaware through the distribution of handmade fleece blankets. Many of these children have nothing that feels permanent to them. A warm handmade blanket that they can choose from the supply, could provide a feeling of something that is theirs to keep, no matter where they go. Fleece for Keeps goal is to provide a continuous supply of blankets, one for each child that enters the foster care system.

Wilmington Garden Day

Wilmington Garden Day (WGD) is an annual event that raises funds to be distributed to agencies offering programs that benefit underserved children in Delaware. WGD celebrated its 64th year of benefiting economically-challenged children in New Castle County on Saturday, May 7, 2011. The first tour, started by a small group of women, took place in 1947 following World War II and featured several beautiful flower gardens that had taken the place of the Victory Gardens needed during the War. WGD blossoms on the first Saturday in May to benefit agencies in Delaware with programs that serve children in need. DiSabatino sponsored a house on the tour to help benefit the event.

2010
DiSabatino Chips In To Help Environment

In January, DiSabatino Tree Service team members Jason Gaskill, our ISA Certified Arborist, and Jaime Garcia, our senior tree climber, volunteered their time to feed Christmas trees into a chipper during a collection by Cub Scout Pack 2 at the Independence School in Pike Creek. The event was held on Saturday, January 9th. For the last five years we've helped the Cub Scout Pack make it easier for people to dispose of their trees after the festive season and recycle them into mulch for a greener environment.

Fundraising Support

DiSabatino made donations in February and March to help support local soccer teams in their fundraising efforts. Thanks to the success and support of the community from their wine tasting event in February, HSC Girl's team U-14 Storm was able to reach their goal. In July they will proudly represent our area at this year's Toronto Cup in Canada. A field sponsorship was also done for HSC for their 18th Annual Spring Classic Tournament in March.

Goodwill Annual Awards Luncheon

Also in March, DiSabatino donated a certificate for an Architectural Landscape Design that was entered into the silent auction. The money raised went into a scholarship fund to help fuel the accomplishments of those members of the community who have bettered their lives and have helped increase the awareness of Goodwill's job training and placement programs.

Town of Elsmere Cleanup

In April, team members partnered up with Police & Fire Officials, along with other local business owners and homeowners in Elsmere to help clean up the Town. Vehicles drove up and down every street in all six districts collecting trash and old appliances for residents. The project was coordinated by John Giles, Town Manager.

DiSabatino Tree Service Celebrates Arbor Day

On April 27th, Arbor Day, Jason Gaskill (DiSabatino's ISA Certified Arborist) joined other tree experts at Haynes Park to share their knowledge with 5th graders from local schools. The main focus of the program was to show the students how to promote tree growth and how to maintain a tree's overall health. There were a number of demonstrations done on site, including the proper way to safely climb a tree without causing any damage to the tree itself..

IHM Athletic Association

In June, DiSabatino donated a Computer Landscape Design to the Immaculate Heart of Mary School's Athletic Association. The design was auctioned off to help raise money for the athletic program at the school. Below is an example of the design, which shows a before and after shot of what the house will look like.

Eighteen Years Strong

In July, DiSabatino sponsored a hole in the 18th Annual Golf Outing hosted by the Catholic Youth Ministry. This event, held at the Cavaliers Country Club, is to raise money for new programs, sponsor new initiatives and let the staff of Catholic Youth Ministry dream beyond today - to shape tomorrow's leaders.
